Wow! A lot of talent at this show. I really liked the ghost in b/w the jack-o-lanterns. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm so jealous you got to go. icon_cry.gif I live in arkansas right now but used to live in Fort Mill and owned a Nail school in Pineville in the Food Lion shopping center. I miss it. icon_cry.gif I was there when they were building that mall. icon_eek.gif Moved in 96. Glad you had a good time. Going to look at pics.

A couple of people on here said that they were going to the competition. I would like to see which cakes they did. They were all wonderful though.

Cakerer- I had to drive two hours to get there, but it was worth it. They had demos going on all day.

It was SO much fun!! I did my first shoe box and gumpaste shoe (thanks to all you cc'ers that gave me inspiration and tutorials!!). I won 2nd place in the beginner novelty category. My daughter won 3rd in the 8 & under category for her desert cake. She was so proud! That was worth every ounce of energy and sleep I had to give up, just to see her face light up when they called her name! Here are ours, thanks to turtle3264 for posting! My digital is broke, so I'm down to the old 35mm. icon_sad.gif

Also, daisy1993 (I think) got 2nd place ofr her cake in the age 13-17 category:

Her basketweave was perfect and her flower placement was beautiful!

When I saw the shoe cake at the competition, it made me think that I was going to try and do one. Your cake was awesome. I had never really wanted to do a shoe cake until I saw yours. When I was at the sculpted cake demo, the guy doing the demo was talking about websites and he mentioned cake central. I thought that was cool.

Oh, gosh thanks, but I've seen much better on here than mine was! I wasn't real pleased with the heel on the shoe, so I'm going to practice some more. I couldn't get my bow to look right either, so I had a bow-less shoe icon_rolleyes.gif . That was the first time I've done that cake. You can tell I'm not professional, right? I mean, you would normally enter a competition with something you already know you can do! Hey did you check out the beautiful tiered pumpkin fall cake in the beginner division? I'm thinking there is NO way she's only decorated less than 2 years. Maybe she's done other artsy things before and has just applied her skills to cake. It was absolutely gorgeous! I could never do anything like that! It was really beautiful! She got best of show in the beginner category.

I haven't seen a shoe cake in person before, but I thought yours was really great. I just stood there and said,"I've got to try this." I think that some people just entered the category that they thought they could win in. How were the judges supposed to know how long she had been decorating. You just have to trust that they will be honest, I guess.

Forgive me if it is obvious and I am being dense, but what is the black thing on the desert cake?

no, you're not being dense, the black thing on Allison's cake (according to her) is a King Cobra icon_confused.gif . I tried to explain that they don't live in the desert, her reply......"well, they live in mine." icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Wow, those cakes are great!
But there were a couple I saw that were near a sign that said professional on it and the cakes were sitting on bare cardboard - soaked in grease! The cakes themselves were great but the cardboard detracted from the overall look.

yeah, cute kids are God's way of tricking us into not killing our teenagers! By the time they hit the teen years and you're at your wits end, you're already so in love with them from all the cutesy years, that you're stuck! Yes, I also have a teenager, an 18 year old son, and by the way, he was really, really cute as a kid (good thing, 'cause he's needed the extra brownie points the last few years!). icon_rolleyes.gif
