Is it possible to deliver a cake a good distance? I'm not worried about the temperatures since it's the holiday season. I want to take a Christmas cake about three (maybe 4, depend on travel times) hours away.

Is this possible? Has anyone seen a cake delivered this far in one piece? Or should I just scrap the idea?

as long as it is constructed properly, yes. make sure its stuck to the board with icing, fully doweled and enclosed in a cake box in a secure area of the vehicle floor. place it on on clean towels or non skid rubber mats, do not let anyone hold it. leave decorations such as toppers off till you get there.

i have had one cake travel 12 hours and a two tier travel 3 hours with no problems.

Hi Ruby,
A lot depends on what kind of cakes you are planning to make, if you can do something simple & take the decorations with you to put on at your destination, everything should be fine. I assume you are traveling by car & can place the cakes on a flat surface. Take repair items with you as well.

It should be fine depending on how it is construted. Because of I live 40 miles away from the closest town north and south of me (yes I am in the boonies icon_smile.gif ) I have to travel a minimum of 45 minutes with a cake. I have gone 1 1/2 hours to my parents w/ a 3 tier cake and it made it just fine.

Well last summer when we had a heat wave (109 degrees), I had to drive 3 1/2 hours with a cake in the care. It was all Fondant.. it got there fine. It is cold now, so I would not worry about it. icon_smile.gif

We took my sister's wedding cake 6 hours away, it was stacked and didn't move.

Use the no skid shelf liner and make sure it's properly constructed.
