I'm making my lil' brother one of those fish cakes (like the colette peters cake). I think the shimmer makes them look more realistic but I don't want to go out and buy some just for this. Any other ways to make fondant shiny? I remember reading somewhere that corn syrup brushed over fondant might do the trick...

Corn syrup or just water will give it a wet look but you aren't going to get the sheen that the fish cakes have by just using that. Also, those little containers - either the ones here or the ones that Wilton has just put out aren't too expensive and will never go bad - I found myself using it on everything... hehe ~ a small container of regular pearl or shimmer can be used on top of any color to give it a nice look - and you aren't stuck with a pot of one color you may never use again....

I hope someone else has an alternative but that's all I can think of as far as the shiny sheen of the fishy cakes I have seen-

(oh and the Wilton stuff - make sure you get the dusts and not the glitter junk - my sister made that mistake once and lost her $ on it becasue she opened it...icon_sad.gif )
