Please forgive this "newbie" question but when using that miracle mix (equal parts vegetable shortening, flour and vegetable oil) that allows cakes to easily release from a pan, do you still have to flour the pan?

Thanks in advance,
Cheryl

No, you don't have to flour.

the pan release works great, especially with the "character" pans and all of their little nooks and crannies.

No additional flour needed, as the above posters have stated.

This is a great mixture, I haven't had anything stick since using it. One of the superhelpful CCers gave the following tip: use a new, clean craft 'sponge brush' to apply the mix, gets into nooks, cleans well with grease-killin liquid soap, doesn't leave 'globs' of the mix in your pan (or, ultimately, on your perfect cake surface)

The only possible downside is that hubby once mistook it for white icing and -yep - had a spoonful

Horrified expression on his face - priceless -

I MAY have made it worse icon_lol.gif when I couldn't stop laughing, and tears were spurting out my eyes. icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, I just tried it and you all are so right.

The cakes just plopped from the pans.

I labeled the jar to save my husband the horror! (Thanks for the laugh and the heads up).

I guess I made it wrong because mine was more of a liquid and I do require flouring of the pan. Is it to have an icing consistancy? Maybe I did not measure correctly.

Mine turned out like soft Crisco.

Like very soft icing.

Although the color isn't very appealing and I can't imagine anyone mistaking it for icing. icon_biggrin.gif

No melting...just put Crisco, oil and flour in a mixer/blender and mix the dickens out of it! thumbs_up.gif

For the pan release, how much of each do you use?

The recipe is simple, just equal amounts of shortening, oil, and flour so you can make as much or as little as you need.

I keep saying I am going to try this, but have never got around to it. Now it's going to be awhile longer. I ordered two jars of CK pan grease from Global Sugar Arts and when it got here the lid had come almost off one jar and it had leaked all over the inside of the package and the packing box. Emailed Alan at GSA and told him, he sent me two new jars at no charge. So now I have 3 and 3/4 jars, that should last me awhile.
