What Is Your Greatest Travel Time To Deliver A Wedding Cake?

I drove 13 1/2 hours to deliver a cake...it was for family in CA, I am in OR. It, was only 3 tiers and I kept the cakes in cambro boxes/storage for the trip. Finalized decorations and assebled on site. Worked great for my little design.
Depending on how elaborate your cake is, try to deliver in pieces and set up there. Thats my advice. HTH ![]()
Well, 8-9 hours is a really long time. I'm assuming this is a close friend or family member you will be doing the cake for? If it's not, the mileage and delivery charge that *I* would charge would make the cake cost-prohibitive.
If you're delivering it for free because this is someone special to you, my tips are:
1) do not stack the cake until you get to the reception site. Place all the tiers on non-slip mats in the back of the car/SUV.
2) do not use perishable filling.
3) if the weather will be warm, make sure you can keep the cakes cool, with an air-conditioned van or SUV.
4) allow plenty of time to allow for potty breaks and anything else that may occur on the road. Allow at least an hour for setup once you arrive. I like to get setup and off the premises before guests start arriving.
It's totally do-able as long as you plan ahead! ![]()
2 1/2 hours up a parkway for me, I was nervous the whole way....
There is a lot of good advice given here, good luck to you and drive safely...![]()
My max delivery time is 30 minutes. If I have to deliver father away than that, then I probably can't take another cake that day. Therefore my delivery fee wold have to be what that lost cake would have cost. My average sale is $450. Therefore my delivery fee would be $450. For a cake 8-9 hours away, that would mean that I'd be giving up 2 additional cakes that day, therefore my delivery fee would be $900. Plus the cost of the cake. Yes, I'm serious. I routinely do 3-4 wedding cakes on the same day.
