I don't know whether or not I should go to this local bridal show.

It'll be held in January. But I have to pay by tomorrow (well, to save an extra $100 I need to pay by tomorrow).

I thought I lost the papers even! Then I thought maybe that was a sign. Then I found them. Hm, a sign?!

I've never done a wedding cake. So I'd have to do lots of dummies in 3 months & take pics. Plus I'd have to make dummies to bring there. I honestly don't even know if I'm "good enough" know what I mean?!

I've already gotten licensed to do cakes from my home. And lately I haven't had any orders. So I feel like doing this in January will help with advertising. But it'll be a lot of work.....

Ok...now I'm just rambling...

If anyone has any words of wisdom I'd LOVE to hear 'em!!! icon_cry.gif

since you are legal now, are you advertising on decidio or oneweb. these are free sites you can advertise on.. since i have done this i am getting several enquiries each week and orders. business is picking up. as for the bridal show, perhaps you would feel more comfortable waiting a year, they generally do them each year, and you will have time to get photos and more wed. cake experience.

Well, starting any new business is a lot of work. If you're really serious about increasing your business I think you have to do it.

I agree with alana. You went to the trouble of getting licensed. You might as well start reaping the benefits!

I've never seen these and tried to do a google search... would you mind sharing the exact site addresses?

Thx

Bridal shows are both fun and lots of work, It can either be a great experience or a huge let down (if you don't get what your looking for. There is a lot of info you have left out that I'm sure you already did your homework on, such as the makeup of the targeted brides.

However, to get your feet wet, why don't you try doubling up with another vendor that would compliment your business or work. Florist are great businesses to do this work. You can get double your money's worth because you will have less to put out in terms of display.

If you do this plan ahead, how will you do it ( its better to blend the work rather than than split the space) Each vendor will be pleasantly pleased by the amount of contacts you can make by doing this.

How would one even begin to know what all is entailed in doing a bridal show?

sounds like you may have done a few. Do you bring dummies or real cake? How many cakes. HOw do you research your targeted brides??

(my head is spinning haha)

I have done lots and lots of bridal shows. There is so much info to share and I would be happy to do that with you. But to keep this thread simple let's chat on the pms.

If you feel your up to doing the show (since your head is already spinning LOL) pay for your booth. The $100.00 really should not make a difference, unless it does for your wallet, HeHe.

In general, don't make rash decisions. They're usually not good ones.

My advice:
1. Pray about it
2. Ask a trusted friend/husband (someone who knows you and your strengths and weaknesses) what they think the pros and cons are for you.

Ultimately, an extra $100 isn't worth your sanity.

Aunt Ginn,

Maybe we could start a new topic on Bridal Shows? I'm very interested in what a veteran has to say!

I'm sure lots of us newbies need info on this, especially where the shows are starting up everywhere in the US, and we'd love to hear any inside advice you have!

Thanks!!

If you search the forums, there are some great topics on bridal shows. I know I've responded to a few myself.

I think that if you want some business, this is one of the best ways to get it. I would do it, but that's just me.

Let's check out these threads, maybe they should be revived. Depending on the part of the country your in Oct has some shows and they again Jan/Feb.

PS Dec. and Feb are the biggest months that couples get engaged, hence the producers of bridal shows want to tap into this time to capture a part of the moment that draws so much revenue.
