Last thursday dh delivered a cake to his work that was ordered by a coworker for another coworker. The instructions were insane and included the shape of a balloon being cut out and filled with M&Ms making sure that the top layer was all red. It was a 12x18 cake and we charged $40. I tacked on $5 for the M&M's I had to buy.

SO its a week later and still no payment. The guy who ordered it makes more then enough money to pay for the cake. We told him before hand how much it would be and have asked him for the money 3x.

What are we supposed to do now? I am pretty mad about it. If he went to Wally world to get a cake he would have had to pay that day or any other person/place in town same thing.

Well I would not have even given him the cake without payment!

Were there any "arrangements" made between the two of you regarding payment?

I guess you learned a lesson the hard way. {HUG}

What does he say when you ask for the money? If he doesn't pay I'd contact the other coworker and ask them for the money stating that the person that ordered the cake never paid for it.

I had something similar happen to me . Brought a cake to a friends daughters birthday, she asked me to make her cake and asked how much, then forgot to pay for it that night then when I picked up the kids the next day she still forgot so I sent her a bill and finally got the money. I know she just forgot but from now on when I deliver a cake it is going to have a bill taped to the top!!! Hope you get paid soon I know how frustrating it is!!!

That is terrible! Can you call him? Email him? Get his physical address and send him an invoice for the cake? Some people have lots of nerve!
You know he knows he owes for that cake! New policy for you~~tell anyone ordering a cake from you that the payment has to be paid on delivery or the cake goes home with you because you have been stiffed before. It is a shame we have to resort to this but if people were not so bad we wouldn't have to have the policies!

I sure hope you do get your money and am very sorry this happened. What an awkward position it puts you in. icon_sad.gif

If you can print him out a bill with a due date and then if he fails to pay, post the bill on a bulletin board at work for all other workers to see. Maybe if he gets embarrassed enough he will pay.

I've had those experiences too, you learn quickly. My policy now is to always get a deposit of 50% regardless of who it is. It's sad that some people have to pay for the mistakes of others but we get tired of being burned.

Yes , yet another one of my pet peeves of cake making. That's my sentiment too, would he go elsewhere and purchase a cake and walk off without paying for it? It's called shop lifting, make a citizens arrest. J/K
I do feel for you, us cake bakers are just too nice sometimes. icon_biggrin.gif

I did like dldbrou's idea though. icon_lol.gif

Send him a written invoice stating the date the cake was ordered, delivered and the cost of it. Say that late payment past x date will incur a fine of x amount and that payment not received by y date will incur a court summons. You can make it look like your 'standard' letter so it's not personal.
