Ok girls, need more advice. Still thinking about these cakes I have to do this weekend. One that I'm doing are the adorable candy cakes I've seen on this site. I usually let my buttercream crust up and then smooth out. I'm worried however, that it will then be harder to get the candy to 'stick' to the cake. I'll be using things such as gumballs, skittles, spree, which I'm not as worried about, would still like any tips. My big concern is I bought some of that sour 'tape' stuff and was going to stripe the top layer. I don't think this will stick at all without some help. I just don't have a clue what to do with it. Do you think I could 'paint' some water on the back of the candy to make it sticky? Or corn syrup maybe? I have no idea. Help!

Thanks again for your advice. icon_smile.gif

Yeah, I think either the water or corn syrup would work well, or piping gel if you have it. You could even use some little dots of buttercream.

Could you not use some BC or RI on the back of the candy?

Use dabs of buttercream or royal icing on the back of the candies .
