Has anyone ever tried to flavor a cake with cereal?? My sis would LOVE a froot loop cake and I'm not sure how to do it. icon_confused.gif Maybe cut down on the flour and add the finely crushed cereal?
TIA

Shel

I don't know about cutting down on the flour amount, seems you would need the amt. of flour in your recipe, could adding the crushed cereal be any different on how we add choc. chips, nuts ect. I really haven't a clue, but I wish you luck. Let us know how this turns out.

Thanks... I was worried about the cereal making the cake too dry. Guess the only way to know is by trial and error!

Welcome to CC Shel!

I'm intrigued! Why not try adding the whole pieces of cereal to a white cake along with some crushed cereal to the flour mix. hmmm, now I'm going to have to try this! icon_smile.gif

I have tried adding the Kool-Aid flavors to icing and it works great. Maybe that would help give cereal like flavor in a cake batter.

Never thought of Kool Aid either, what a good idea! I'm definitely going to have to play around with this idea!

Thanks for the welcome, dodibug. I've been lurking around for a while. Hopefully I will get to post some of my cake pics tonight (I'm at work now), although I'm a little embarrassed to do so, the cakes on here are so gorgeous!! I can't compare!

Oh please do post your pics! We all have cakes that we are really proud of and those that we either laugh or cry about! There is even a hilarious thread titled "Post Your Worst Cake" It is sooo funny! And I think I have 2 or 3 in there! icon_lol.gif

Why not use the cereal for a little crunch between layers. I've used rice crispies and grated chocolate, also cruched cookies on top of the BC.
I think if you put the cereal IN the batter, it will just mush in with it and not be discernable.
If you use colored sprinkles in the batter it will give you the same look as the 'funfetti' cake mixes- that would give you the Fruit Loop colors. Then maybe decorate the finished cake with the cereal too.

Well, I did it! it worked, kind of. I made a classic white cake mix with the extender. I added about 2 cups (I know, A LOT) of finely crushed froot loop crumbs. The cake has a slight fruity flavor. I think I will add cereal pieces between the layers and decorate it as a cereal bowl with more on top. Worth a try, but I don't think I'll bother next time! icon_wink.gif

I bet just a touch of lemon oil and/or orange oil, in with the crushed cereal in the batter would help augment the flavor... interesting concept!!

or you can make very thin layers of cake. flavored and colored like the fruit loops!??? Stack them together and ice..

then you can press broken pieces of the cereal to the sides???

thanks for the feedback, everyone! Update - I gave the cake to my sis, she LOVED the cake itself, but the pieces I filled it with got soggy and nasty and the Kool Aid frosting was too strong (my fault, I'm sure) But the cake itself was a winner. Makes me wonder about froot loop cake balls with white chocolate... icon_biggrin.gif
