I want to use a styrofoam piece in the cake I am making. I cut it to look like a cloud and am going to put it on the top. How do I keep any styrofoam pieces out of the cake? Thanks!

I would cover the styrofoam in fondant.

Yes, you want to cover it in fondant...mainly because a plain piece of styrofoam is just unattractive.

You can also stick a dowel in it to insert in the cake to further keep it off edible surfaces if you like.

When working with styrafoam, I cover my working piece in saran wrap . I don't want to risk anything getting near my cake.

I would first coat it with thinned royal icing, than when its dry I would use the MMf because its more billowy to me. (If I'm gramatically correct)
