Have finally taken the plunge and tried cornelli... i wasn't sure whether to put a "border" around the top, but i've left it as is and think it's ok... are you supposed to border cornelli??? I won't post the pic here - it's in my gallery - but here's the link ...

It looks wonderful as is! I think adding a border will take away from the lace...beautiful job! Sorry about your hands, I totally understand doing alot for nothing, although I haven't anything like you. One question, are the stars and numbers edible?

Saw your cake and you did a wonderful job.
I guess borders are used for giving the cake a finished look if that is needed. I've seen some cakes without them neatly done.
By the way, which color blue did you use?

I like the look of this cake without a border. My MIL would LOVE the cake, as she loves anything blue!

Great job! I love the cutouts on the board!

It looks like delphinium blue to me!

It looks great! I love the board cutouts. You definitely do not need a border. Great job!

Awww... thanks guys... everything is edible - numbers and stars... only things that arent are the wires (obviously) and the curly ribbon (got slack and couldnt be bothered making anymore fondant decorations.

The colour is delphinium blue ... so jen1977 gets a gold star! I was a little worried that it was starting to look like "blu tac" but by the time I glittered & cornelli'd it doesnt look too bad.

The board cutouts I had done before for a christening cake and like the effect - was just an experiment at the time that I actually thought looked rather special ((if i dont say so myself!)).

Thanks for all the positive comments... nothing like an ego boost!!

PS: all this was done on a day where i am absolutely shattered (late night with Robbie Williams) and actually had very little creativity in me!!! (you'll notice the cake actually slopes down at the front... hopefully they will all be too pissed to notice it tomorrow night!! hehehe))

LOVE the cake! The ribbons is my favorite touch, coming out of the cake like that. Great job!

Saw the last line you wrote -- what's the story?
