I'm a little confused about luster/pearl dusts. I just ordered some online and I also ordered the FDA approved platinum dusts. Does that mean I can only use the FDA approved dust on the edible parts and the other dusts can only be used on decorations?

Thanks for your time!

If I'm not mistaken the dusts are considered edible in other countries, the reason it's not here is that we freak out about the smallest possibility that something might be not so good for us.

My kids eat candy that's been painted with luster dust, you don't use very much so I don't worry about it.

There are a couple colors that I believe have stuff in them that makes them for decoration only.

I could be wrong about this but that's what I understand.

Back during the summer (I may not have my timeframe totally correct) there was a thread on here about how the FDA has said that luster dusts can be used on something to be eaten as long as the weight of dust used didn't exceed 10% of the weight of the food item. As light as luster dusts are, it's pretty close to impossible to exceed those guidelines.

By passing along this information, I am doing something I swore I'd never do...pass along something I read on the internet without checking it out with the primary source first. But, I offer this for what it's worth to you. You may want to check it out further.
