icon_redface.gif I am definitely a newbie to cake decorating. I have seen all of the beautiful purse cakes posted on this site. I was hoping on getting some suggestions on how to get the diamond pattern on the fondant for the purse cakes without cutting all the way through the fondant. I was planning to use the MMF recipes posted here on CC. Please help..... TIA

For the diamond impressions, there are metal diamond impressors, plastic diamond impression mats, patchwork cutters, etc. etc. You have many options out there.

Oh, and Welcome to CC (better known as your new addiction)! icon_lol.gif

Most people use an impression mat, you press it against the fondant of crusted buttercream and it leaves an impression.

For mine I used MMF and a metal diamond impressor. I just pushed it lightly and wiggled it around a bit and it left the marks, just don't push too deep. It will take some practice. I'm attaching a link in case you want to see how it came out.

I am going to admit that I am definitely addicted to everything on this website!!!.... Thanks to all of the members and creators of this website!

Also, thank you for all of the advice on the diamond shaped image. I do have one more question though - how do you make the buttons? then again, how would you make your own mold to make the buttons? I think that is an interesting way of creating something. Please share.

I bought some mold making goop that you mix the white and yellow syuff together and once mixed you put the button you want to make a mold of in it and push down and leave it there until it firms up. You can buy it at Michaels its about $20 a box. (if I can remember the brand I will find a link to let you see the box)

I made the cake! I think I could have cut the pieces out a little better but I think it turned out okay (considering it was my first 3d cake). I ended up using BBQ sticks to make the imprint (mainly due to lack of time to get the right equipment). Thanks to Tramski, jibbies and bobwonderbuns for your help with this cake!

I posted the picture in the first time cake gallery. Please let me know what you think.

Wow rlicup!!! I just saw that cake -- AMAZING!!! How did you get the stitched look on the straps? Very nice! You did a great job and you are to be congratulated!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks again bobwonderbuns!

I used the Wilton Wheel Cutter/Embosser for the stitches. I was very skeptical at first. When I ran it through, it worked!
