I bought some dummy cake rounds. I'm practicing for a cake coming up and I am going to cover them in fondant. Do I need to use BC underneath? icon_confused.gif Will the fondant lay flat against the sides without BC? Suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

hi! i just did a cake for my daughter's bday and the bottom was a dummy cake..i put bc around the cake so it would stick to the dummy cake..i did not need a lot, just enough to "glue" the fondant to the dummy..

I was just in a fondant class last night and all we did was take Crisco and smear it on the top and the sides. Worked like a charm! Also, take another piece of styrofoam and run it around the top edge of your dummy to soften that edge just a tad so that the edges won't seem so sharp when you put the fondant on (it gives a slightly softer look to the finished "cake".)

wrap it in plastic wrap (if you want to reuse it)
royal icing, then fondant is what some people do

I also painted mine with an acrylic paint (semi-gloss thanks to handyman hubby icon_smile.gif so I can reuse it. I just rinse it off in hot water and voila! All set to go! This is a wonderful way to keep those dummies lasting a looooooong time!! icon_smile.gif

I always use water to attach my fondant to the dummy and have not had to wrap it in plastic wrap I just run it under hot water and the fondant comes right off and then use it again over and over. I am redoing one right now.
