Does anyone have any suggestions on how to create stairs that spiral around a 6" tier?
I've seen this where a castle is used as a topper and then spiraling stairs are inset into the tier below.
I'm guessing you would have to carve into the cake to make this look dimensional.
I'm not sure how to start.

I know this may not be much help, but...I'd think about using a long length of gumpaste (kind of like an isle runner) and use toothpicks to support it along the cake at different levels. Stick in the picks and drape the gumpaste ribbon on them.

Sort of like fire escape stairs along the side of a building.

I wish I could be more help.

If you're using like say 10" on bottom & 6" on top you can carve into the cake at an angle. I did one of my cakes like that for a road around a mountain. Spirling staircase could be done the same way.
