My wilton instructor had mentioned once that she makes dummie cakes for the classroom.. basically fondant or royal icing (i think) over styrofoam.... does anyone know where to get these or how the fondant says on??? I know you wouldn't use buttercream right???

Please let me know I'm trying to make models of my work using styrofoam... if anyone can advise me... I would appreciate it!!!Thanks... God bless.

I do dummies with fondant and just spritz the dummy with water before putting the fondant on, and it works fine.

Others use: light coat of royal icing or even a bit of corn syrup, but hey, water's cheaper.

I do dummies and spread piping gel on the cake dummy and then apply fondant. You can get cake dummies real cheap at DALLAS FOAM. Do a google search as I am to computer illiterate to insert a link.

I use them all the time, I love them, it keeps me in practice.

The last one I did I used Royal Frosting, I think I could drop it off a roof of a building and it would stay intact. Which, is great because I can keep them for show.

I did a search and found several web-sites that sells them. They come in a selection of sizes and shapes.

When I use Buttercream I wrap plastic wrap aound it so when I'm done I can easily pull the frosting off and re-use the dummy.

Have fun with them!
