I have been asked to do a utensil theme bridal shower cake. I have thought about a toaster or a blender. Does anyone else have any ideas? The party wants it to be a shaped cake.

Hi ideco8,
You might try looking in the galleries under bridal shower and/or 3-D cakes there is a ton of ideas there.

I think the toaster idea is GREAT..... and probably easier than the blender.... A waffle iron would be cute too....

I think I would be inclined to make a round or tiered with mini untensils scattered about.. like a wire wisk, spatula maybe a mini toaster or whatever else you plan to incorporate. I just think that might be a little more elegant,, if that is possible with untensils..

how about making a tiered cake like a utensil caddy (think pampered chef caddy) placing it on a lazy susan type base so it spins, then making utensils out of gum paste (wooden spoons, rubber and metal spatulas, whisk, etc.) and have them "in" the caddy,

Is it a 'utensil' or 'appliance' party? I'd tend to think that utensils would imply spatulas, turners, slotted spoons, garlic presses... that kind of thing. I like the 'tool caddy' idea... a tiered cake with perhaps a painted canister on top, holding actual utensils for the bride-to-be? I also like the idea of having 'mini' utensils scattered about the tiers... Bed, Bath, and Beyond usually has some really cute mini-utensils, if you look around the store. Cheese graters (which actually doubles as a nutmeg grater), mini whisks, turners, measuring cups, etc...

If it's appliances, then definitely a toaster, blender, or waffle iron. icon_smile.gif

just my two cents! icon_smile.gif

Why don't you make the cake as the tool caddy with the cooking utensils coming out of the top? It would be a simple design using same sized cake rounds, covered in fondant with a lip around the top and then make some fondant/gumpast utensils coming out of the top? You could even do the little attachments that go on the outside of the caddy. Go to Walmart and look at their caddies for an idea of the design, but I think that would be really cute and simple to do!

Good luck! Let us know what you end up doing! thumbs_up.gif
