Ok, so I've never made Christmas cookies in my life, and I have to this year. So I kinda have 2 questions.
First which would be a better cookie to decorate with royal icing, shortbread or a sugar cookie?
And... I make the Wilton recipe Royal Icing... and it doesn't taste sweet?? It tastes like... cooked egg whites or something? What's wrong with it?
GOOD LUCK ON BAKING THE COOKIES...
EITHER RECIPE IS FINE TO MAKE THEM. MAYBE YUO COULD DO A LITTLE OF EACH....DIFFERENT TASTES..
AS FOR THE ICING, I AM NOT SURE WHATS UP WITH IT....IS IT MERINGUE POWDER ICING??
TO GET RID OF THE EGGIE SMELL MAYBE YOU CAN ADD A LITTLE LIME JUICE TO IT...JUST A LITTLE.
you can add flavors to your icing but the cookie is what mostly makes it taste great. I usually do sugar cookies but don't see why you can't do whatever kind you like best.
You could use either cookie to decorate, I would think. I use a recipe similar to the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe on this site and I decorate with icing made from powdered sugar and equal parts of milk and cornsyrup. (You can use a flavoring if you want.) If you don't like the Wilton recipe for royal icing, check this site for something else. Everyone seems to like Antonia's. Give it a try.
check out the no fail sugar cookie recipe in the recipe section and i use buttercream dream for my cookies but they are just for family if you want them to look as good as they taste use Antonia's icing it is in the cookie decorating tutorial in the article section. HTH ![]()
