I wanted to make a cookie bouquet using a coffee mug for a my daughter's K - teacher. I already bought the mug. Hubby wanted to try to make a cookie cutter like the tutorial on CC site. Anyway he made a school bus and it measures 3"tall and almost 7" long at the widest part ( bumper to bumper). So would I use 2 sticks or will one do? I was going to make a little black board also for the other cookie. I was even thinking about wrapping each cookies in a bag and just laying them in the mug with tissue paper around it but the bus would barely fit.
Personally never seen any cookies with two sticks. Has anyone done that?

Any suggestions?

Yes, I've had to use 2 Wilton lollipop sticks in a wide cookie before. My first time it took me a couple tries.

As an example, if a mug measures 3" wide inside diameter, put a stick in the cookie at 2-1/2" (measuring from the left side of your cookie ) & another one at 4-1/2". That way, you have 2" of the cookie sticking out from the left, 3" across the opening, and 2" more sticking out past the right side (2 +3+2= your 7" cookie). Whatever your cookie cutter length, lay it over your mug opening, centering it. Measure 1/2" in toward the center of the mug from the left and do the same from the right side for your stick positions

Be careful to push both of your sticks into your un-baked cookie, as straight as possible, so when they've cooled completely and you're evenly inserting the sticks into floral foam in the mug, it won't break your cookie. The Key is even pressure horizontally & vertically when inserting the sticks in the mug.

Try experimenting; 1) Insert a thick 6-8" Wilton Cookie stick in the center of an un-baked cookie, bake, cool and insert in mug's floral foam, letting the cookie rest on the edges of the mug. Wiggle the mug around a little to see if it remains sturdy. 2) Try the above 2-stick method. Either way, if one way doesn't work, you have a good cookie to eat.

Personally I'd use a 6" thick Cookie Stick (not lollipop; thinner dia.) for the bus, an 8" stick for a blackboard and a 10-12" stick for an apple, add shredded crinkle cut paper, cover the whole bouquet with a clear gift basket bag or celophane, tie a ribbon near the opening, curl it and you're done! Good luck! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to pm me icon_smile.gif

Well I tried it out before seeing your reply. I just stuck a lolipop stick and that didn't work then did a scewer bamboo thing and that didn't work either. So now reading your reply I think I will have to try it again.
thanks for the info.

maybe try putting the stick in the back of the bus? then if you use a long sucker stick (i put mine in before baking) it will stand on end and you will get more room for the blackboard and stuff. Tip, always pre-punch your hole, i use a small screwdriver that is the tiniest bit smaller than my stick. thumbs_up.gif for hubby for helping with the cookie cutter.

Schildwaster,

Thanks for that tip. Don't know why I didn't think of that. I always pre-drill a smaller hole when screwing a screw into the wall.

I will have to try it again, soon I hope. I had problems with the stick staying on and with balancing( cookie too large).

Hey, just a handy trick. If a cookie ever spins around on it's stick, take it off carefully, pipe a little Royal Icing in the hole, and insert stick. Once it hardens it should be fine.
