Will an Epson Stylus c 80 work for images? Found one today a garage sale and don't know if it would work or not.

I am not sure if the C-80 will work, but I am sure the printer for edible images has to be bran new to ensure that none of the regular printer ink gets mixed-up with the edible ink. (Regular printer ink is highly toxic).

Hey, cakenutz, to see if that printer is compatible, go to www.icingimages.com and look up the list of printers and see if it's listed. Also, as mentioned, be absolutely sure no regular ink has ever been used in the printer or it's no good.

I actually made a cake last weekend of a scrapbook, and was running around frantically trying to find someone who did edible images. I did find a bakery that was willing to do the image without me having to buy the cake there. I was talking to the girl doing the image and she told me that she just uses the cheap printers, anyone will do she says. She said that she doesn't spend more than 100$ on a printer because as soon as you use a different type of ink (edible ink), the warranty is void. So if it's a cheap printer and it breaks down it doesn't hurt quite as much. This was from a very reputable and big bakery. If you're using an old printer, how about running cleaner (alcool) through it to sterilize it, maybe that would work? Just a thought, thanks for listening to my long drawn out story...lol

No, please do not try to sterillize a used printer. For the safety of your customer you must use a new onel!

Comeau is very right that a cheap printer works!! I bought mine for $89!! And that was such an eye opener after reading all these things that tried to sell me an 'edible imaging system' for thousands of dollars!! I thought you had to get all that, but you DON'T!!! A cheap (but compatible model) printer is perfect, as long as it's new! (Sorry, I am not trying to annoy you with that, just very adament about it!)
