I noticed, especially on a cake that is an apple in the food section, that some of you are able to get a glossy finish, how is that accomplished? Thanks for your help!

The link to the cake I'm talking about is here...

Photo Gallery > Contests > 2005 Food Cakes Contest number 23 of 38. I don't know how to send a link to it, and unlike most pictures, there isn't an area to post questions/make comments. Thanks for you help!

I was in a demo here at the ICES conference today, watching a "turkey" cake being made. (Fantastic demo!) Someone mentioned a 'food lacquer' that is made in Germany and available on the web from several U.S. cake sites. It comes in an aerosol can and she remarked that it is expensive.

Good luck -

BTW, you could PM the person that posted that picture and ask - click on the name and you'll go to the profile. Then click "PM."

If you wet fondant, it dries shiny, apparently.

Hi, I use a small paint brush to apply a coating of clear vanilla to my fondant flowers when I want a high gloss. It works really well! This might be the look you want. Hope so!

..when I made my "Basted Turkey" cake, I sprayed it with a mixture of warm water and karo syrup...just using a regular spray bottle.
