Hi everybody,
I have a quick question. I own and operate a childrens charity that provides fun parties for children waitng to be adopted and those that are in the foster care system. We are partnered with another organization and we will be hosting a Christmas party for 500 children.
One of the many things I have to do is make 1/2 sheet cakes to feed all 500 of them. To make life easier I am going to make single layer cakes. Does anyone know how many kid size pieces I can get out of a 1/2 sheet cake?
I generally figure about 50 servings out of a 12x18, that's 2x2x2. You might be able to get away with smaller servings for really little kids but teenage boys can really eat so if you have mixed ages I would figure on the 50 servings a cake.
Maybe don't have someone just cut the cake and plate it, it might work better if you have someone cutting for each child.
How much cake they'll eat is also going to depend on what else is served at the party. Even for adults a little piece of cake is fine if it's followed by a big meal, at a company party that I made the cake for they had the number expected but the person cutting the cake cut smaller pieces and no one seemed to mind because we had had a big prime rib dinner.
