Hi, I bought some ready made fondant from Goldaskitchen.com I am having some problems coloring it and wonder if anyone else has or have any suggestions on what's going wrong.
I first tried to color some violet, using wilton violet color. It came out baby blue, although my hands were purple and any time I have used the color for bc, it has come out purple, so I know it's not my color.
today I tried to use it again, this time to get pink. I used my burgundy which I had just used to color my gumpaste, and this time the fondant came out purple...
It seems to pick up the blue in the color? icon_sad.gif
Anyone else ever have a problem Like this?
Anyone have a suggestion what might be going on?
The fondant is goldas, but someone suggested that it may be mccalls.

I colored some McCalls last week and it came out fine. The green was green and the pink was pink. My only suggestion on the violet is that maybe you didn't use enough. Sorry I'm not much help.

I've had this problem also, using Pettinence fondant. I tried to make black and it was purple and my red was hot pink - this after adding almost an entire bottle. I had to end up airbrushing on color. Since then I've switched to marshmallow fondant and haven't had any problems with coloring. I wish I had some suggestions about what went wrong, but wanted you to know that you're not the only one!

I have heard of that happening with some brands of fondant. I saw a thread about this a few weeks ago here on CC. Apparently some brands "absorb" certain colors. I'm not sure how to fix it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help...

I use mmf and the only thing I can think of is that you aren't using enough of color. I had similar problems. Try using a small piece of the fondant and test color before mixing the whole batch, using a little color at a time. That's what I do to try and find the color I like.

I agree with jenlg. I used Pettinice for an Elmo, and yes, i had to use a lot of red, but it was red. But I would also suggest doing a small test batch - maybe like just a little ball that fits in the palm of your hand.

thanks for the help, I am thinking its the way it absorbs the color as I can color other fondant with the same amount without the same problems. Go figure, maybe I should try another brand of ready made fondant. Give in and get the satin ice!!!
