Hi! I need ideas for a 1/2 sheet baby shower cake. Customer says the couple is originally from India, so they like bright colors. They don't know girl or boy.

My first thought was to do a "pillow" cake in rich orange & purple w/Indian inspired piping, tassles etc.--but she wants the sheet cake and didn't pay for a lot of extra stuff...just the basics.

My mind is blank and I've searched through the galleries with nothing popping out at me...any help would be much appreciated, so thanks in advance!

Do they have a theme for the shower? Like Winnie the Pooh or something like that? I am doing one in December, her theme is Winnie the Pooh, they don't know what they are having so I am using Winnie the Pooh with decorations that are yellow. Hope this helps, good luck. icon_biggrin.gif

I would do something with reds, oranges, and yellows. Maybe something with a paisley design or just scroll work? Maybe a quilt design with bright colors?

As a side note, My only concern is this...you seem to be dealing with someone that's getting a cake for someone else? I too am indian, and though bright colors are used for weddings and celebrations, for baby showers, it's still pastels. So, you may want to confirm that the clients actually want this, and it's not just assumptions being made that they want bright colors. Just my opinion.

You could also do a "baby's block" design, children's toys (balls, rattles, kites, drums, etc.) where the color is in the toys selected. Ask if the baby's room has a decorating theme....teddy bears, trains, etc., and gear it toward that.

Hope you find what you need.

Thanks for the ideas...you all helped to get my brain in gear!

mendhigurl...thanks for your input...I have the same concern about it not being what the mom & dad-to-be will expect. Maybe I'll just use "bright-pastels" like lemon yellow, lime green, bright lavendar and keep it generic baby showerish rather than try to make it "Indian-themed".
