To make animals and figure models I use gumpaste/fondant mix. The problem I am having is when I roll bodies etc the fondant tends to have cracks. No matter how much crisco or rolling I do there is always a crack.
Please Help! What is best to use, fondant or gumpaste or a mix?

I use a 50/50 mix of fondant and gumpaste. The cracking is likely caused by it being to dry. Be sure and keep your hands greased with vegetable shortening while you are working with it and keep it covered in plastic wrap when you are not using it. Being to dry is the only reason I can think of for it to be cracking. Unless, it is old?

When you roll it out the crackes should roll right out.

I have been doing a lot of fondant these past weeks and I use 1 tsp. of Tylose to 12 oz of my MMF. I have settled on Rhondas Ultimate MMF as my favorite but I add 1/2 TBS. of crisco to the mixture while it is being kneaded by the mixer. I have no problems with any figures or flowers that I have been working on. I do not roll out my fondant with anything like cornstarch or more powdered sugar, as that just dries it out more. I just put a little Crisco on my hands when I start working with a piece and that's all it takes to roll it out on my Wilton acrylic sheet. I put the Tylose in different portions of colored fondant the day before I want to work on it, but keep it wrapped in plastic wrap and then in a plastic bag. It keeps for weeks and I also warm the pieces I am going to use in the microwave a little before I start making something.
Hope this helps
