Odd, I posted this last night, but the post is gone. So will try again!

Is this cake painted or stencil? If its painted, any ideas on what kind of template to use or should I just free hand it? (was going to use airbrush colors)

To me, it looks like it's probably hand-painted. When you look closely, none of the swirlees are exactly the same. There may have been a simpler stencil used to apply the base design and then it may have been embellished by hand.

Looks a little too free form to be stencil. Beautiful though. I think it is probably free hand, but I am really not sure.
I love it though.

Like mboyd, I can't find matching swirlies either so would have to say it is hand painted. It is a very pretty cake!
