Okay so Wilton had a cupcake decorated like a peppermint twist, but it uses fondant. I wanted to do a peppermint-look to some cupcakes, but I'm not sure what would be the best way to do that. Should I try to make a ton of frozen transfers? I don't think that will work b/c I already made white-chocolate cream cheese icing...... So I don't want to use fondant, but I want to make the cupcakes look like peppermints. Any ideas?

Do you think I should make the icing smooth white and then do red over it? or should I try to make it "fluffier" looking like w/ the 1M tip do white circle around and then try to do some red on top? Would that be weird?

Maybe you could alternate lines with the large star tip or round tip, let crust, and then flatten to better join the stripes with a viva papertowel? Not sure-just an idea!

I would stripe my bag with red, then fill it with white icing and pipe the icing on with a big star tip in the regular swirl pattern.

you could color stripe using the m1 icing tip white with red. Or you could take a toothpick and lightly "stripe" your cupcakes individually or swirl them I should say.

The bag stripe idea is great - except I already colored my icing! BUT - I think I'll take the two bags and put them in one and stripe it that way - I think it will turn out good..... if not I guess I'll try to make more icing and stripe it icon_smile.gif Thanks to all for your wonderful ideas!

UGH! Just thought I'd get back to you.... I tried to do the two different icings in one bag and it didn't turn out so great... yeah it was red and white but it didn't look like a peppermint... in fact it was a little more white or a little more red depending on how I angled the bag. But I didn't like it.

SO i tried striping the bag - same kind of problem..... didn't like it.

So FINALLY I iced the cupcakes in white and made a red swirl on top.... that was okay but still not ideal. It's definitely not my favorite of the work I've done but I'll post pics as soon as we can find our camera charger - I still have pics from another cake but it's stuck on the camera right now!!!

Thanks again for everyone's help. Try to check out my gallery next week (hopefully I'll have had a chance to upload them by then) to see what I did. Oh I also added some small butter cookies that I decorated as ornaments w/ rolled buttercream. And then I made some tiny ones that looked like little ornaments. Just to help ya pick 'em out once I upload them...
