I hesitate to say bring this thing up again but it doesn't seem right that someone posts photos of cakes that are not their own. I see no disclaimer that says these are not her own ideas. I've seen three so far that came from here at Cake Central.
They are all wedding cakes. The first is the cake that shows up when you go to the galleries and see the picture next to round wedding cakes. It is on her site.
http://home.bellsouth.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=16&groupid=351569&ck=

The second is this cake by boonenati. She even left nati's watermark on the picture.

The third is this cake by confectionaryperfection

I know I recognize more of the cakes from this web site. I just can't place them all. Maybe you guys can help. Maybe she just doesn't know that what she is doing is wrong.

Just found another one: This is a cake by Peggy that is on her website. Should we contact the people whose pictures are being used without their permission?

Having recently "been there, done that" with this issue, I would suggest PMing the people that did the cakes and letting them deal with it. Under NO circumstances should anyone else be emailing or in other ways contacting the offender. Cheers to anyone that finds this kind of stuff, and lets the rest of us know. thumbs_up.gif

It's ok to get mad, but it may not be your fight. Advise the owner of the cake or cake picture and let them contact her themselves.

All the rest of you - one very long and time-consuming word of advice: WATERMARK YOUR PICTURES before posting them here. Since this happened to me, I have gone in (slowly, but methodically) and done this to every one of mine. And I don't post a new one before I've done it.

Good luck and happy caking! icon_smile.gif

arosstx, I agree with you on that. Bombarding her with emails will only upset her and everyone else. Should I PM the people I have found? Should someone be delegated to this task? I don't particularly want to volunteer. I was hoping that, with some help, we could pinpoint exactly whose pictures she is using and only those people could email her.

arosstx, just a side note to what you said. Aren't you a little upset about losing your cake picture title and keywords when you go back and edit your pictures? I started to watermark some of mine and noticed I was losing those things. That means no one can pull it up with a search.

And a note to everyone else. I don't want to be the cause of an uproar. Can we please just let those whose pictures have been taken email the lady? I do not want to see hateful things being said and done. She may not know any better. I'm just a believer in intellectual property rights.

She doesn't say that she made the cakes, but she does say "look at our pictures". To me, that implies that she thinks she owns the pictures, which isn't true.

Hopefully, this is just a case of somebody being ignorant of the law (or ethics), and that she will replace the misleading pictures with some of her own.

Wow, the outpouring of support is heartwarming, KathysCC!

I'll keep plugging away (and not watermarking my pictures), and maybe some day I can join the ranks of the few, the proud, the copyright-violated. icon_lol.gif

Ignorance of the law is no defence in what this woman is doing. She is letting people believe that she made all these cakes in order to get orders. I would just love to see the cake she makes when someone wants to order one like one of the fab ones you cake central masters have done!

She posted a comment under this one.

Okay, I give up. There are still about 10 or 15 that I didn't find here. Maybe someone else can. She seems to favor the categories of wedding cake contests, square wedding cakes and especially round wedding cakes.

KathysCC....you go girl!! I just can't believe the nerve of some people. I would be afraid to put other peoples pics on my website, mainly because I would worry about someone asking me to actually do one of them! lol. On top of the copyright infringement. Does she have any cakes on there that are hers? Maybe that list would be easier to make Kathy! icon_lol.gif

OK, slam me if you will, but why oh why don't people take the very simple, very quick step to just watermark their darn photos??? Granted, this person has photos with the watermarks on them - but at least we can all see that the photo doesn't belong to them! I'm definitely not saying it's right, but if you don't watermark your photos, then you are kinda making your photos fair game to all and sundry. I'm not sure if you can watermark the photos that go into a competition, as that would kinda give away the game as to whom the photo belonged to, but there is nothing stopping you editing or replacing that photo with a watermarked version after the competition is over. If you care that much about someone stealing your pics (and rightly so), then at least attempt to protect them with a watermark. OK, getting off my soapbox now and ducking for cover!

I think a lot of people don't know how to watermark, and some don't even know what a watermark is - as is evidence by the PM's I am getting today! Maybe someone could put together a tutorial for it. I'm sure Heath would post it if they did.

Well, the very easy way I do it, is to open my photo in Paint, and then write text across the picture. If I can do it, anyone can - I'm a total computer pleb lol! I have only ever had 1 photo stolen (very recently infact), and that was an old photo (of some very sub-standard cookies!), that wasn't water-marked, so it does help.

There is a place at te bottom of her site where you can report inappropriate content. Maybe that would be a n option for those of you who have a picture stolen..
