First place to start is to find out if your state even licences a home based business, most do not. If they do then you need to get their info on all you need to pass inspection. HTH

First let me say Welcome to CC and the fabulous cake world!!! What I suggest is getting the demographics in your area...for instance ask around and see how people would react to a cake shop, get business cards and try to do as many cakes as possible because the best advertisement is word of mouth, find out what kind of advertising you would need to do to get yourself going. We only have a kitchen no shop yet but our name is in the phonebook and we get at least 5 calls a day, which in my area is alot!!! I hope this helps GOOD LUCK!!!

Welcome to CC!!!

I would start by finding out your state and local laws about running a business. Some states are more challenging then others. But it can be done.

After that, I would research registering your business name in your state. Where I am, it's $50 for like 5 years. Not a big expense.

I would go through and read all the posts in this (cake decorating business) forum. There is a wealth of information and you could probably find the answers and more to your questions.
