I just made a batch of MMF. It came out great. I colored some orange, some yellow and a bunch black. The problem is that the black has a different consistency. It seems to be ripping and full of pitty looking holes... so I thought maybe it needed more water... Does anyone have an explanation as to why the black is acting this way but the other colors from the same batch of MMF are fine... Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
You don't want to put more water in-it will just get slimy. Try kneading in a little Crisco-I don't know how much black you have, but I would try a tablespoon first and see if that helps, then add a little more. Work it in really well. My black sometimes dries more than the others, but it's because I start with chocolate, which means I add cocoa and that dries it out. I usually just offset with Crisco. ![]()
I have also had problems in the past with try to make MMF or any fondant those really deep colors... ie. Black and Red I think it has something to do with the fact that we have to use so much food coloring to obtain that color. Like mgdqueen said try adding crisco that should help if not then when you make a batch add the coloring to the "soupy" stage and when you add your PS you should be fine.. that works best for me.. I know its a pain to make 2 batched but if the 1st one doesnt work you will have to make another anyway. HTH
