if you are talking Wilton Shimer, pleeeaaaasssee, do not waste your time and money on that... Get the Luster Dust instead. There is NO

See thats what I was afraid of.I just bought two packs of wilton's shimer dust and it didn't do a thing the way the luster dust should have. That's why I asked, but I guess I should have asked before I bought.O well,I learned my lesson, lol.Thank you guys for taking your time to explain.

I knew it wasn't exactly the same as a luster dust but never expect it to be soooooo UGLY! I do not like it and I got every single color, every pack in the store and then my BF got me like two packs more thinking it was the same as the luster dust! Now I'm stuck with like 18 containers in all colors! I wish there was something nice I could use them for... ![]()

The Wilton Shimmer Dusts are merely the edible glitter they sell ground down to powder. I showed one of my students on a white piece of paper the difference -- the Wilton stuff just moved around over the surface, not coloring it at all!! The real luster dust (we all know and love) colored evenly and beautifully using very little. The real stuff costs more, but you get what you pay for!!
Sorry to hear that your are stuck with these things.. I can suggest that you use it as glitter or something like that.. do not mix it with anything.. just sprinkle them over wet piped royal icing.
Like if you pipe royal icing as a border around a cookie. ![]()
Yeah, dont bother with the shimmer dust. I used it once and while it did look pretty when directly under the light, it just looked like dust all over the cake when out of direct light.
Does anyone knows of the good site to buy luster dust.It would be great If I could buy it in the pack or something like that.I really want to try to make those christmas ornaments everyone is talking about.they look so adorable and I just have to try it.
go to : www.paylesscakedecor.com/lusterdust1.htm
they sell it for 3.98/two pack. 2oz each jar.... very good quality
for that shimmer dust you can't figure out what to do with... i sprinkled mine on really wet royal icing on cookies, and it made it crinkle up when it dried like real snow, and it shimmered. made a bunch of snowflakes, did them in white with the white glitter, then put a small poinsettia or other christmas icon in the center, or did the snowflakes with all the cutouts without any icons; they were too pretty to eat, although they did get eaten by the people i gave them to... good luck with it, the different colors would be pretty in other types of things, too. maybe a 'brick' walkway to a house on the top of a cake? or a neat texture for an ornament cookie, pumpkin, whatever. it's an idea...
I remember last summer I went to a Wilton instructor conference and they made gumpaste carnations and took red shimmer dust, dumped it out onto a plate and took the gumpaste glue and dusted the glue over the edges of the carnation and rolled it in the red shimmer dust -- the carnation itself wasn't colored so the end result was a red and white carnation -- very pretty!!
