I think it's always good to take classes regardless of how advanced you are. Any opportunity that offers you a chance to learn something is always worth pursuing. I learned more on this site than I ever thought possible, but I took the classes and really gained alot of skills. Now that I'm teaching, I want to make sure each students really gains something from the class and sees their potential.

So..from a student standpoint-take the classes.
From a teacher standpoint-take the classes. icon_smile.gif

Good luck.

With that said, I think I will! I know it would be fun even if I am just practicing skills I already have in the beginning. Thanks for the input!

I am a Wilton instructor and I was neither screened or submitted pictures and never asked to submit pictures. But I did have another Wilton instructor recommend me.
The new course "Fondant and Gum Paste" will start in February at Michaels Stores. for three months. The other stores (Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, AC Moore, etc.) will start teaching it in May. (as I mentioned in an earlier post in this topic.)
I will try to attach a picture of the new course book.

I have been a Wilton Instructor at Michaels for 9 years now. I am one of three in my area that taught the 4-week Gumpaste Flowers Course. Wilton has restructured the course and it includes Fondant, and a great new course book and Kit. I know I am really excited about the new additions. The previous Gumpaste course/kit is from the 70's and has been very outdated. It was due for a change. I'm somewhat dissapointed in that some of the flowers orginally taught in the course will no longer be included in the new course. Anyway...Below is the Course Info directly from Wilton. (This is from our Michael's Account Site).

COMING IN FEBRUARY,
EXCLUSIVELY AT MICHAELS!

Wilton Fondant & Gum Paste 4-Week Course

Michaels will be the exclusive launch partner for Wilton's new 4-week course, "Fondant and Gum Paste," beginning in February. This means that during February, March and April 2007, Michaels is the only location where this course can be taught.

I believe they are stressing that it is not Course 4 because you do not have to have 2 and 3 to take it. All you need to take the new Fondant and Gumpaste course is Course 1.

As far as what is being offered no one is quite sure yet. Michaels Instructors are waiting for their information on the classes. We have seen the cover of the kit and the lesson plan, so it looks like fondant basics as well as a few flowers, such as their Fantasy Flower, carnation and the Daisy. We don't know what else is in the book that is not on the cover.

I am thinking about taking the classes there in January, but I haven't quite decided yet. Knowing me, I won't decide until the last minute icon_rolleyes.gif Unfortunately I don't know anyone in the area who has taken classes there so I don't know about the instructor. I'll let you know if I sign up!

Texas Sugar.
Some instructors already know what's in the new course.

I am in Missiouri and at our Wilton Supervisor Yearly meeting this past July, we were taught the new flowers and drapes that are in the New Course. We were given detailed instruction at that time and explained to in detail what to be expecting. In addition - they later followed that up with emails as the details were being finalized.
So the Michael's instructors in MO know what is in the books. Our kits and books plus DVD's are being shipped out this week.

I just got done w/ course 1 and will be signing up for course 2 this weekend! I've always loved decorating cakes, and am self taught. I wanted to take the classes to leard how to do flowers, because I have NO experience and am better taught hands on. Anyway, the course was so fun and I learned more than just the roses! You should try, this month Michael's is doing sign-ups for $12.50 icon_surprised.gif + supplies. And if you use your 40% off coupon for your kit, that saves you even more! icon_lol.gif I highly recommend them. HTH.

I think all the Michaels employees were taught those same techniques at the annual instructors meeting. We were told that those MAY be what is in the new course, but it may not be the exact same thing. We'll all be finding out soon! icon_biggrin.gif
