Okay, what experience do you have? We all started as beginners, and some are fabulous now! Most of us are just trying to learn and catch up with the rest.

Welcome!

All I can say is read and study your behind off. When I first started I just picked up the wilton yearbook and learned so much from there. Then I found this site and learned sooooooooooooo much more.

Welcome to the best site in the world for help, advice and positive comments!!
I began cake decorating in April of this year - took the Wilton cake classes at Michaels'. I needed direction. Then in August I found this site and find it the most informative and helpful place that anyone could dream for!
Be careful - it is a very addictive hobby/interest thumbs_up.gif

I personally started with the Wilton Courses at my local Michael's, it was a great way for me as I had no experience at all! HTH

Welcome to CC!!

I started with the Wilton I and II courses at Joann... even if you don't take the class, the book and kits are great starters! Then I found CC and that got me going with marshmallow fondant (MMF), which is sooo much fun!!!

On average, I paid $12.50 for each course - but I had to buy the kit for the discount. The classes are one night a week and last 4 weeks. I enjoyed every one! I had no experience at cake decorating - none! It was a great starting point for me personally.

They are $25 a month and each course lasts the whole month, so it's not really bad. Also they run specials of 50% off when you buy the kit that is usually $20. HTH

I am not nearly as talented as most of the folks here but I started by buying a few supplies. I got a decorator's bag and a star tip. I would decorate character pans or anything that could be done with a star tip. A few years later, I took the classes at Michael's. I learned so much there. The classes are well worth the time and money. And CC is awesome!!!!!

I would suggest starting with the Wilton courses. You can find a place that offers them in your area by visiting www.wilton.com. After you're done, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And read plenty of books on cake decorating.

And save up a lot of money- you're gonna need it! icon_lol.gif
