Before I tell my customer that this CANNOT be done, does anyone have any ideas on how I can do a 1/4 sheet cake (or even another size or shape) starring the Village People on the Dating game? Keep in mind that this can't be a really expensive cake - I don't want to do carving or tiers, or hand molded fondant figures. But since the recipient is also a friend of mine (although I am not the one placing the order) I will gladly put forth the extra effort to make it a special cake and just eat the cost (over and above the $30 or so I will charge).

Any ideas? I am truly stumped on this one. I could do the Dating game flower pattern on the background, but after that . . . ????? I hate to have to resort to edible images - but I have even looked online for a good picture I could use on one side of the "screen" and couldn't find anything workable.

If you can find individual images of the villiage people and you can sort of edit them together...you can make an edible ( I know you said you didn't want to use one..lol) image of them on one side of the screen...

if you can get an actual image of the dating game bachelors and crop the village people heads onto them..lol

and then have your friends pic on the other side..lol

...This may not help you..since you don't want to do an edible image but, that's the best that I can do..lol

especially since it's for a friend and you plan on charging very little...

what about a FBCT?
you could search online for a cartoon drawing of the village people and use that to create a FBCT. even if you did each "villager" as an individual transfer so that you could place them how you wanted on the cake. then with the dating game flower pattern in the background and maybe a sign above them saying The Dating Game in the original font of the show.

good luck. this is a tough one!

How about going to the toy store and buying some plastic figurines and sticking them on it like they are on the set. They should have a policeman, indian, etc. My other idea is to decorate the cake with the "dating game" flower and then pipe in the characters' hats such as a construction hard hat, etc. That is a tough one, I don't envy you. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I guess I could pipe them on and not have clear distinct faces. that might work.

Or, suggest another cake? That sounds like the best alternative.
