Ok, so my friend has been encouraging me to do cakes. I did the batman cake (in my pics) for her son, and now she wants me to do a cake for her daughers birthday in a couple of weeks. Her theme is "The Cat" (see attached pic) I was thinking the cake in this picture is BORRRRRING, and my friend wants me to take the idea and run with it.
My idea is to frost a cake . . . most likely rectangle or square (pretty small party) in white. Use the blue paw prints around the outside. I want to try (a first for me . . . YIKES!) a small 3-d kitty. . . maybe made out of a cupcake or two. I was thinking about making a ball of yarn spell out Happy Birthday or something . . . . what do the experts think? I value any opinions and ideas!! (and any tips on making a kitty out of a cupcake . . . . LOL!)

That sounds like a cute cake! Being a dog person, I tend to notice the puppy cakes more than cat ones myself and I know that the gallery has a lot of really cute 3-d dogs that are made with cupcakes or carved cakes, on top of sheet cakes...you could probably pm one of those creators for a "how-to" and then just adapt it to a cat face instead of a dog...Sorry I'm not of more help...

I think it is a wonderful idea! I love the 3d cakes made from cupcakes and the special "grass" tip for the fur...I am wanting to do that myself! You could even try molding rice krispy treats for the cat.

Also, the yarn ball would look great spelling the name or happy bday. You could even make the ball out of fondant (for stability and form) and then the yarn from the icing. I did that with my yarn ball on my kitten cake in my pics. So easy!

Good luck! I want to see when you are done! icon_biggrin.gif

I haven't made a kitty out of a cupcake, but, I did make one out of the small 3D bear cake pan (it's the "Cat" picture in my pics) I wish I had time to do a better job on the base cake, because I like the ball of yarn idea! Anyway, it wasn't too hard to modify.

One of the first cakes I did was from this very theme...I guess it is boring, but the little girl absolutely LOVED it.

OOOoooo, very cute with the kitty face . . . great idea! Thanks everyone for the good ideas, I've been thinking on them. I've even tried talking to my hubby about them (bad idea . . . if it doesn't have gears and a big block engine he doesn't care! icon_mad.gif ) LOL Keep the ideas coming!
