I just put a mound of icing in the middle of the cake to make my bouquet in that. I take it off with the flowers before cutting the cake. I also only use flowers that are not treated with any kind of chemicals (pesticides) I'm always afraid of that getting into the cake and making someone sick
Neni...Many popular wedding flowers are poisonous all on their own. Any flower that comes from a bulb is a bad idea to have sitting on your cake, period. I think the cases are few and far between where people actually get sick, but that is what I know from food safety. Flower's such as pansies, callendulas and chrisanthamums are edible (they're popular in salads) but only if you get them from a reputable supplier and not some Joe blow growing flowers next to a farmer that sprays his crops. The picks are a good idea to use, or if the bouquet is self contained in some sort of holder it should be safe as well. And that's what I know...
Here is a list of poisonous flowers from Tombi Peck. The website is our friend Gaynor's from England. I get a kick out of the music "Poison Ivy" but it may make you crazy listening to it.

what if you dont even know the name of the flowers to be used on the cake??
the bride(wedding in 4 days) is bringing in her own flowers from a florist to be put on the cake(the day before the wedding)....she is already panicked enough(it was her last minute decision to put fresh flowers on the cake).....
ughh...help ![]()
If the bride wants the flowers on the sides of the cake - I would use flower spikes for sure.
If it is an arrangement for the top - the florist that makes them for my shop uses the small 5oz clear solo cups so that it can be taken off and the bride can still save it, if she wanted.
