I am new at making gum paste roses and want to make rich deep red roses. I seem to be only achieving deep pink when I mix the red paste into my gum paste. Any suggestions??

I wanted a particular deep royal blue when I was making gumpaste roses and had the same problem with coloring the gumpaste as you are. So, I sprayed my roses with Antique Blue Luster Dust and they came out the perfect color. It took two sprayings but the final product was gorgeous! They make a Super Red Luster Dust you could do the same thing with and it would make your life a lot easier, IMO. It is so hard to get deep red like you are wanting with coloring alone. The dusting powders are where you pick up your finished color for the flower. You can spray as mentioned, dry dust with a brush and then steam to set the color (which also darkens it a bit) or mix airbrush color with Everclear, Isopropyl alcohol. or vodka and dip the flower into the color, this achieves a really dark red.
