Doing a cake this weekend. The bride bought real flowers for it. They have to cascade down the side of the cake. I talked to a local florist. She said I do not need touse inserts. What do you think

It depends on what flowers are being used, some are toxic and if that's the case I would use flower picks no matter what type she is using.

I agree with MissRobin; when I've had to cascade flowers down the side of a cake, I always use inserts.

They prevent any issues of toxicity, and I can cluster some flowers together more easily as well. It also looks immensely professional.
You can buy them at Walmart in the floral sections, or at most craft stores as well (and even from some florists).

I try to keep flower picks in my emergency repair kit at all times, just in case. I never put anything into the cake that is questionably food safe, just on general principles. icon_razz.gif

Count me in on this line of thought, too. Floral picks will also help you to control the line of florals, too. And, like everyone else has already said, there will be fewer issues with toxicity, especially in this day and age of people and their allergies.
