I just finished up my favorite cake to date. It's a dummy inspired by a graphic image I saw in Michael's (I snapped a pic with my cell phone) of "Suzy Skull-la-licious".
I posted photos of the process in my MySpace gallery in case anyone wanted to check them out (www.myspace.com/brandibakes). Getting her pig-tails on was a pain in the butt, but otherwise, this one was such fun to make! And my 14 year old daughter went nuts over it. Her telling me how "cool" I am was the best part I think. LOL!
Ok, I was wondering how you came up with the idea for this cake! It is so cool and yes my 20 yr. old daughter would love it...which is why I'm not going to show it to her. There's no way I would attempt to even try it! You did such an awesome job and have every right to brag!!!
Well, the skull with pink hair was the inspiration... I don't know where I came up with the rest of it. Weird imagination I guess. LOL!
Just wanted to add my congrats in making such an awesome piece. This is just wonderful I must show to everyone. Great idea. ![]()
Very Very Great Job! I absolutely LOVE IT! Fabulous Work! It must have taken forever! ![]()
I usually don't like these kinds of cakes but this is a MASTERPIECE!!!!
If you haven't I'd send this to Duff and I'm sure he'd tell you that this is one insane cake!!! ![]()

This was definitely one of those projects that you scratch your head on wondering if it's going to turn out anywhere near as good as it looks in your head.
There are a couple of things that I look at and think I could have done it differently or better - but then as artists, are we EVER truly satisfied with our work? LOL!
I e-mailed a photo to the artist and got a message back this morning that she posted the pic in her blog (and linked to my website). THAT was an honor. ![]()
Ok, the artist who drew "Suzy Skull-la-licious" is Marah Johnson, and this is her blog:

I checked out some of her other work, and she's awesome! I just might have to use her as inspiration on my next cake as well.
I wrote to her for permission to post the photos on my website (copyright and all) - and never thought she'd post the pic.
Again, a couple people have asked me in PM/comments how I did something... so make sure you check my MySpace photo gallery if you want to know how something was done. I snapped a pic of just about every step of the process. If anyone makes a cake similar to this, I INSIST on being sent the link! I want to see how much fun you've had doing one as well. ![]()
