Help With Fondant

Hi! I just did my 2nd fondant cake... But im always having trouble with it. Why is it my fondant cracks easily? And when I knead it again it becomes dry and doesnt stick together... Everytime this happens i put it in the microwave and heat it a little bit before kneading it again... Pls help...

Try a little crisco added in. It always helps mine. Makes it really streachy

I always add a touch of crisco and some gumpaste to mine. (I go by feel not by measuring)

Try that next time.

That cake is great for it being your second one too. Nice job.

This really is good for your second fondant cake!

Yes, definitely add a little crisco!! I just smear a little on my work surface and then knead it in. This really helps a lot. You can also add a little bit of glycerin too. Also, it looks like your fondant might be rolled a little thin...

Ms Courtney you think my fondant is too thin? i'm really not sure how thick it should be... How will I know if i have the right thickness for my fondant? Pls Help. Thanks icon_sad.gif

Usually about 1/8-1/4 inch thick is good. You want it thick enough so it's easy to smooth and so nothing will show through from underneath... Personally, I've never measured how thick my fondant is with a ruler or anything but over time you get the hang of it by feel.
