I have my first order for cupcakes, but don't know how to price them. They want cupcakes with fondant flower decorations on top. I was thinking of quoting them $2/cupcake with an additional charge for the decorations. Is this realistic? How much would you charge for the decorations? .25/cupcake? .50/cupcake? 1.00/cupcake? I have no idea!! Help
Even the grocery stores get $1 each for their icky (MHO) cupcakes.. My prices are set up like this..
Basic Cupcake:
Chocolate or Vanilla cake with Chocolate or Vanilla BC and rainbow sprinkles
$1.50 each (min order 1 dozen)
Fancy Cupcake:
Any cake flavor I offer with a filling a frosting of your choice. Minimal decoration included
starting at $2.50 each depending on flavor choices (min order 1 dozen)
Detailed decoration is extra.
Cupcakes are a PITA!! rather than one cake you have 12 or more mini cakes to decorate..
I look at it this way - cupcakes are a single serving of cake, so why should I charge any less for them than I do for a serving of a slice from a big cake?! Therefore, mine start at $2.50 per cupcake and go up from there depending on decoration and icing preference. For the ones you're talking about, I'd charge $3 a piece.

Plus the PITA factor. Having to decorate each individual "slice" of cake is more work than decorating a big cake, as mentioned above.
