Yes, using a 50/50 gumpaste fondant blend cut out your three then run your wire up the longest point of the three. Keep is laying flat until completely dry and you should be fine. Be sure and roll your fondant/gumpaste thick enough so the wire doesnt' easily poke through it or break.

How do you make gumpaste or can I buy it? I make my own MMF.I'm still learning.

Thanks for your Help,

I would say that if you can make fondant, you can make gumpaste. Wilton has a Gum-Tex powder you can use. You add glucose waster and icing sugar.

I checked the price of premade and it was CA$14.00 for a lb. The can of gum-tex is about the same price but you would make it much cheaper if in the long run if you made it yourself.

Assuming you have a Michaels or Hobby Lobby or another craft store that carries Wilton decorating supplies, Wilton sells a ready-made foil packaged gumpaste, and, a gumpaste mix that comes in a can. I have used both and prefer the mix that comes in the can. It is super fast and simple to mix up.
If you buy the ready-made foil pouch make sure to squeeze it to see if it is pliable and has no really hard dry corners or edges. It is not easy to squeeze anyway but shouldn't have obviously hard dried areas.

There are scratch recipes for making gumpaste but I have not tried any of them because the Wilton is very good quality and easy to work with.

I make my own fondant but still prefer to buy the gumpaste. Readymade at Michael's is about $8 the mix is a little less. My guess is its about the same in Ohio as it is here in PA. The gumpaste is a little pricey but it goes a long way.

you could use plain fondant if u want. just add small amount of tylose powder (CMC) and it would also work. very easy to work with, not to mention a lot cheaper. the tylose is maybe about 4 dollars or so and lasts a very very long time.
