This was posted on another forum today, I know nothing personally about it, but thought it might be of interest for those who have school age children.

Lockdown Alert will notify you of emergencies in your school district.

Our school district is supposed to be implementing something like that due to an incident last school year. There was a bomb threat and no one was told about it until several hours after it happend. I can tell you that the parents were not happy. So there's supposed to be some sort of automated phone call if there's an emergency. Thanks for the link though. I'll go ahead and sign up for it. You never know when it might come in handy.

I think this is a good thing, I wish we had something like this a few years ago. My daughter was going to a school for children with learning disabilities that was an hour away from where I live it also was in a really bad part of town. Well my daughter was very late gettin home from school well next thing I know I see on TV that the school is on lockdown because of suspect with a gun was seen across the street from the school by the time the caught the person and released the kids she did not get home til 8pm.

I think it's a good idea.

My daughters school has something like. But it notifies us of anything like early dismissal for weather. I think any parent doesn't ever want to get that email about a lockdown or whatever, but it's nice to know they are taking steps to keep the safety of our children and keep the parents informed.

Thanks so much for this information. I just clicked on the link and signed up. I'm amazed that my son's school was actually on there.

OMG! How weird is that? Both my children's schools were locked down today! Some genius decided to hold up a local fast food place with a gun (loser) across the street from the high school and about 1/2 a mile down the street from the junior and elementary schools.
We recieved automated calls from the schools. The elementary school called during the lockdown, the high school called about 4 this afternoon.
I checked the website and neither school registered a lockdown today. Weird. I guess I'll have to rely on the school phone calls.
