Well, at least this is for my own birthday cake. I would be crying my eyes out if this was for someone else.

Ok, so what the heck happened? I was making some Neoclassical buttercream using egg yolks (I've done it once before with no problems whatsoever). I added the syrup at the right moment and I don't think I overcooked it then. I followed the instructions to a T and everything looked fine. Then, my KitchenAid from hell that has been having a very temperamental day would not cool off the mixture no matter how long I beat it. We're talking about one hour plus. I think that that's what cooked the eggs...all that heat from the motor. You couldn't touch the KitchenAid because it would burn your hands (I have to get a more powerful one). So I started adding the butter and something looked weird... Like stringy... luckily I decided to stop and try it before I added all the butter but what a waste! And disappointment! I've been working full time on my b-day cake for the last two days and I have everything planned (when I want to do what) and now this happens to me... why oh why icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I just thought I would vent. I know you guys would understand and offer some support.

Awww, I'm so sorry this happened to you. If it's any consolation, I had a cake decorating week from hell. EVERYTHING happened to me. I baked cakes the wrong sizes, ran out of ingredients, burned a cake, had one fall apart, and even had to give one of my customers a refund. I told my husband that I wasn't doing anymore cakes until after finals, because I am just burned out. All in all, all the cakes got done except for the one I refunded because it fell completly apart. Thank God it was for a good friend. Anyways, Happy Birthday and many more to come!!

Thank you guys! I'm trying to keep a positive attitude about it because I realized it's just not worth stressing about. I bake because I love it. This is supposed to be fun, right? Thank you for the birthday wishes!

Ps: Sorry cassandrascakes that you had a bad week.

Hey, maybe someone will give you a new KA for your birthday after seeing how the old one messed up your icing! Happy Birthday!

Had to throw in a bit here....I have been worrying myself to no end about making many cookies for my mom's b'day party in December (making, shipping across the country, etc.) plus many others things along with Thanksgiving to deal with all at the same time. So the day before turkey day I made 6 batches of NFSC and put a couple batches of dough into each bowl so each batch would remain cold till needed. Turkey Day went well and got up on Friday, kids all asleep so I decided to start making the cookies only to find a huge mess oozing out of my microwave with a note: "Mom, obviously these are NOT mashed potatoes!"
My daughter got up during the night to heat up some potatoes and gravy (that were in the bowls!) only to discover she grabbed the cookie dough!!
So, talk about sweet eggs??? I literally had 'sweet potatoes' and gravy!

Ooops! Would your daughter care for some sweet scrambled eggs to go with those sweet mashed potatoes? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I suppose you just gotta laugh and move on.
