Most of the fondant cakes I see are all fondant (i.e. cake covering and decorations). Is it possible to use fondant for decoration only on a buttercream frosted cake? I didn't want to cover the whole cake in fondant if possible, but wanted to use fondant cutouts, etc for the decorations.
Sure you can. Most of my cakes are frosted in buttercream and decorated with fondant. Most of the time the fondant will stick right to the bc if freshly iced, if the bc has crusted it takes a little water brushed on the back. Just dont press on to hard or your bc will crack.
Absolutely, I do it all the time! Most of my cakes are done this way. Like the others said, little piping gel, or even water on the back of the fondant does the trick. If it's a non crusting BC the accents will stick right to the frosting. Have fun trying this ![]()
