my 15 month old has clear snot pouring from his nose and is coughing so I'm getting ready to give him another breathing treatment since he has bronchiolitis. When I picked him up earlier to blow his nose I noticed he had a lot of gunk in his eyes so I wiped it out and here it is 1 hour later and the gunk is back and then some, it looks like light green liquidy boogers coming out of his eyes. His eyes are not pink though so I don't think it's pink eye. Can you get a cold in your eyes? because that's what it looks like. I'm going to try to get him a doctors appt. for tomorrow but what should I do in the meantime?

yes, u can get cold in ur eyes...it's a GOOD thing that his nose is running clear, but i can't remember at this moment what to do about the eyes--warm wash cloth is the first thing that came to mind---it really does sound like he has alot of cold in him---if they told you he could have children's tylenol or advil, i'd give him some because this will help with any pain his may be having from the cough, etc..

good luck & i sure hope u r able to get some sleep tonight

oh, the reason i said it's a good thing to have a clear runny nose is because he's more likely to have an infection if it's yellow or green snotty nose

it might be pink eye - my son had the same symptoms and his eyes were never blood shot looking. if i am not mistaken the only thing that gets rid of it is antibiotic eye drops, remember if it is pink eye wash all sheets, pillow cases and blankets - good luck

Maybe its allergies?

It probably started as a virus in his sinuses, but then the natural bacterial there can get spread to the ears, eyes, and lungs and cause problems. Since it's already in his lungs, there's a good chance it's gone to his ears and eyes, too. I get this, unfortunately, way too often and a round of antibiotics should clear it all up.

Next time it starts with the nose gunk, a sinus wash can do wonders to help keep the bacteria from spreading to other parts of the body. Good luck.

Cheers, from

Thanks everyone, I'm calling the doctor when I'm out of class in the morning. I feel so bad for him, I gave him baby tylonal and a breathing treatment before bed.
Everything just hit so fast today with him symptom wise. Thanks again, I'll update tomorrow. (Last time this happened to my other son who was 3 at the time, he started acting sick at 2:00 well I got him an appt. for at 3:10 and at 3:35 he was in the children's hospital for 1 week and was close to dying) That's why I'm kind of nuts about this right now. I have a strong feeling I'll be sleeping next to his crib on the floor just in case and possibly skipping classes tomorrow. Cameron is wayyyy more important to me.

I would sleep with him too! You sound like me!! icon_lol.gif I probably wouldn't go to class either, especially if your other son ended up in the hospitol. Why was he in the hospitol for that long? I'm sorry if I'm too nosey! icon_redface.gif It sounds like you're doing the right thing, I hate when little ones are sick! Poor baby. Good luck and keep us posted!

The clear runny nose is not an infection yet....but once it turns yellow or lime green it is.The lime green eyes means he has a cold in the eye.A bit of over the counter eyes drops like polysporin should clear that up.

Well, I did go to school today and called home as soon as I got out of class. I called the DR. office and tomorrow (tuesday) at 4:00 is when I was able to squeeze in for an appt. His eyes are not as gunky today as yesterday but they are so puffed and watery. He still has clear mucus pouring from his nose too. I have just enough breathing treatments left to last till tomorrow icon_razz.gif He's being such a trooper about it all though! I however had a horrible night sleep. Everytime he coughed I was up and if I didn't hear him coughing I was really up! Very little sleep but worth knowing he was ok throught the night. I did sleep next to his crib too icon_wink.gif

flavacakes, My son Trenton was in the hospital just before christmas last year with bronchiolitis. You are suppose to have a minimum of 95% oxygen and at the DR office he had 72% and dropping. He was taken to the hospital right away by us after a breathing treatment at the DR office. I don't think we drove that fast in a LONG time. We didn't even have to register in the ER, they had us go straight to the childrens sick ward on a special floor and their was a room already waiting for him. As soon as we walked on to the floor we were met by a DR., nurses and another DR. who gave him a breathing treatment right away. He had a whole bunch of test, breathing treatment and x-rays when there for the week. The floor DR told me after his first x-ray that he probly would have died soon if we wouldn't have gotten him there so quick. He had only about 3 inches in only his left long that wasn't fluid filled. icon_cry.gif I about passed out hearing that because he was fine that morning! Basically brondhiolitis is the same thing as pnumonia just without the fluid being infected, that's why it can be so serious. But he came home right before christmas ---and brought home a really nasty flu virus for the whole family to enjoy on christmas icon_lol.gif

Anyways, we are doing ok for right now and Cameron Troy is still eating and drinking well which I am thankful for. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers we can still use them. I'm a scared mommy (you should see my DH freak out as bad as me too)

thanks! I just put him down to bed and of course everything is draining down the back of his throat making him cough and gag, but he does seem to be a little better than last night so that is a blessing to me. I'll tell you all what the DR. says tomorro.

Well he is on antibiotics for 2 ear infections and the infection was also in his eyes and nose (his snot from the nose turned to lime green this morning--yuck!) The DR. looked at him and said "he looks horribly congested and full of mucus" (NO crap Doc, that's why I'm here! : but I didn't say it----I'm a little on the grouchy side since I've only had 6 1/2 hours of sleep for 2 days icon_cry.gif )

He has to stay on breathing treatments for a while to since it's wanting to shift more into his lungs, but it looks like we might have caught it just soon enough. icon_razz.gif

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and prayers once again!
