Mixing Gum Paste Please Help

OK please bear with me I have had one of those days with 2 screaming kids- (3years old and 10 mo.) So you can understand why I need a cake fix, but am to tired to bake.
Here is the prob... I thought I would mix up some gum paste for the first time, Instructions say combine 1 lb. of mix with 1/4 cup water.
Canister is 16 0z. So I mix the whole canister right? Please don't laugh at me I know this is a simple problem I am just to tired to think about it.
Never mind I googled the question. I think I will just go to bed anyway after the laundry is done.
