Anyone who has made palm trees. I need palm trees but have seen them made with pretzel sticks and piped leaves but they don't look very natural what about gumpaste leaves attached to the pretzel stick glued with royal icing and tip 10 piped coconuts. Confused please give me any pointers.

I have made some with a palm tree mold in chocolate and also in fondant. I make two and glue them with buttercream then put a skewer stick so that I can insert them in the cake and have had no problems. the mold I have even has coconuts.
Best of luck

I have made them with fondant leaves and used those waffer cookies that are rolled up to make long sticks. (Sorry I can't remember exactly what they are called) but they have a pattern on them that looks like bark on a palm tree. Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

i made a simple version
using fondant for the leaves (daisy cutter)
and chocolate wafer rolls for the trunks
cute and suited the cake - plus they were a sinch!

they are on the "ocean wonders" cake in my photos

notjustcake - that;s how I did mine. You just have to do it in stages. I made the leaves from the rose leaf cutter and then cut slits in it to make it look like a palm leaf. Let dry overnight. Then attached to a mound of royal icing, dried overnight.Did a second layer of leaves and also dried overnight. Oh - I supported the leaves with tissue while they were drying. The next night I attached to the pretzel rods with RI. This is tricky because you have to find a way to support the structure while it dries. Makes lots more than you need - they break easily.
