Thanks Loriana. I have to add one more thought and please everyone, don 't flame me. I don't think donating the check back to the church is a good idea either. I think she will feel offended and this act will add more guilt to both sides of the situation. If you don't want the money yourself, give it back to it's rightful owner and let her make the decision as to where it goes It isn't right for you to make that decision with someone else's money. This is a lesson in kindness and taking the higher road.
I think you can cash it or return it... either one... as long as you are gracious and your friend feels that your relationship is mended. I really think some (many) friends don't realize that a sheet cake for $24 is a favor. Now she knows and won't take advantage.
