Never have tried the stick. I keep practicing the nail and I'm getting better. Have learned the hard way what consistency of icing I need. Maybe I'll try the stick one of these days.

I like the stick better because its simpler. You don't have to have two bags with icing. It's less work.

I have never used the stick, so I have to say the nail right now. But I do want to learn the stick method.

I haven't tried the stick either but I like using the nail. I guess it is what you get used to. I would like to try the stick one day.

I like using a toothpick in the bottom of a Hershey's Kiss as the rose base.

So, I guess my answer is "neither"! (or is it "both", because it has elements of each?)

You use one bag with a #12 tip to make the base of the rose and another bag with the #104 to make the petals. Keeps you from having to change tips each time.

i use the nail and only one bag and i don't change the tip and i have never had a problem with my roses, takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it is a real time saver. icon_wink.gif

I have never tried the stick either. So its the nail for me. And I also use 2 bags, but sometimes I just use 1.
I gotta try that stick method.

No one I knew used two tips either. When I took the Wilton class they insisted on it. I think with a little practice I could do it all with one tip. My aunt always made it look so easy........I was just a kid then and just couldn't get the hang of it. Probably still can't. icon_lol.gif I'm an old kid now with grandkids!!!! icon_lol.gif

I've only made roses a couple of times but I used a hersheys kiss to form the roses on.. It was very easy.. It was a tip I read on here.. Only problem is the rose is quite big.. But hey ..more frosting is good right?
